Designing Stories in SAP Analytics Cloud (SACS 21): Building a Story

 

🎯 Objective

  • Build a story in SAP Analytics Cloud using appropriate layout and data sources.


🧭 Getting Started with Story Design

🔹 Navigation Path

  1. Open the Navigation bar (left vertical menu).

  2. Select “Stories”.

  3. Choose:

    • Create New

    • Create from Template

🔹 Page Types

  • Responsive Page:

    • Adapts automatically to different screen sizes (e.g., desktops, tablets, phones).

    • Best for mobile-friendly and flexible layouts.

  • Canvas Page:

    • Fixed layout.

    • Better control for precise design and positioning.


🛠️ Design Mode Selection

When starting a new story, you must choose between:

  • Optimized Design Experience ✅ (Recommended by SAP)

  • Classic Design Experience (Legacy, limited future support)

Note: Optimized Design is the default going forward, with better performance and new features.


📊 Building a Story in SAP Analytics Cloud

Basic Steps:

  1. Start a New Story (from Stories menu)

  2. Choose Page Layout (Responsive or Canvas)

  3. Select Design Mode (Optimized is preferred)

  4. Add a Data Source:

    • Model (preferred for reusable, scalable stories)

    • File/Dataset (quick ad hoc analysis)

  5. Insert Story Elements:

    • Charts (bar, pie, line, etc.)

    • Tables

    • KPIs

    • Images

    • Text

    • Filters or input controls

  6. Customize Layout using the Builder Panel

  7. Preview, Share, or Publish your story
