Exploring SAP Analytics Cloud (SACE 11): Creating Insights Using Data Analyzer

🎯 Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to analyze data using the Data Analyzer interface in SAP Analytics Cloud.

🔍 What is Data Analyzer?

Data Analyzer is a ready-to-use tool for ad hoc data exploration. It supports live connections to:

  • SAP BW queries

  • SAP HANA views

  • SAP Datasphere models

  • SAP Analytics Cloud models

👉 You don’t need to build a separate model — you can connect directly to these sources using the Select Data Source dialog.

🧭 User Interface Overview

Here’s what’s included in the Data Analyzer interface:

UI ElementDescription
Table/Chart ViewView your data in a tabular layout or basic chart
Filter AreaApply filters to refine your dataset
Builder PanelDrag and drop dimensions and measures to configure your table
Menu BarUse options like Refresh, Edit Prompts, and Save
Calculated MeasuresCreate custom calculations for analysis (only stored in the insight, not the original data source)

💾 Saving Your Insight

Once you’re satisfied with your analysis:

  1. Click Save in the top-left.

  2. In the Save Insight dialog:

    • Choose the file location (e.g., My Files or Public folder).

    • Enter a name and optional description.

  3. Click Save to preserve your work.

✅ These insights can be reopened and further explored later — perfect for recurring analysis needs.

📝 Summary

  • Data Analyzer provides quick, flexible analysis with minimal setup.

  • Ideal for non-technical users and analysts who need answers fast.

  • No modeling required for SAP BW, HANA, or Datasphere sources.

  • You can save and share insights just like you do with stories.
