Exploring SAP Analytics Cloud (SACE 11): Viewing and Interacting with a Story

๐ŸŽฏ Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to view and interact with a story in SAP Analytics Cloud.

๐Ÿงฉ Core Concepts

๐Ÿ“˜ What Is a Story?

A story in SAP Analytics Cloud is a data visualization and analysis interface that functions like a report or dashboard. It can include:

  • Tables

  • Charts

  • Interactive filters

  • Input controls

  • Text, images, and other visual elements

Working Modes

Stories have three main working modes:

ModeDescription
ViewDefault mode; read-only access with limited interaction (e.g., filter, drill down).
EditFull design access: add/edit pages, widgets, charts, interactivity, etc.
PresentInteractive presentation mode using real-time data; replaces static presentations (like PowerPoint).

๐Ÿ”– Bookmarks

Bookmarks let you save a specific view of a story (filters/prompts applied).

  • Types:

    • Private: Only visible to the user.

    • Global: Shared view (requires authorization).

  • Use Cases:

    • Save commonly viewed scenarios.

    • Set a default story view.

    • Share specific filtered perspectives with others.

  • Steps to Add a Bookmark:

    1. Apply filters/prompts.

    2. Click the Bookmark icon.

    3. Choose Create Bookmark.

    4. Optionally customize the link or set as default view.

๐Ÿ“Œ Pin a Story to Home Page

Quickly access a frequently used story:

  • In View mode, click the More Actions menu of the story.

  • Select Pin to Home.

๐Ÿงพ Exporting Options

๐Ÿ“ค Export the Full Story (Presentation Format)

From File menu in View or Edit mode:

  • Export to:

    • PDF

    • PowerPoint (.pptx)

    • Google Slides

⚠️ Cannot export full story to Excel or CSV from here.

๐Ÿ“ค Export Story Data (Table or Chart)

From More Actions (right-click or 3-dot menu) on a specific widget (chart/table):

  • Export to:

    • Excel (.xlsx)

    • CSV

This exports only the data behind that specific element, not the full story layout.

Practice Exercise Summary

  • Helps in accessing stories faster.

2. Create and Use Bookmarks

  • Bookmark different views of the story.

  • Set a default bookmark for consistent entry point.
